Triton Beta 1.2.10

We just released a new beta of AIM Triton, this was mainly a bugfix release as we get ready to land our next set of features. Notable improvements in this release include support for most proxy configurations, and (at long last) a fix for the plugin settings bug.

For proxies, we will now support SOCKS5 and HTTPS proxies if they are configured/autodetected with IE. However, we don't currently support proxies that require authentication as we have not yet done the work to deal with retrieval/storage of the proxy credentials. A future release will support SOCKS4 (is anybody still using this?), proxies that require authentication, and smart selection of the ports used to contact the AIM service. If you are using Triton and are having problems connecting, please let me know (along with any details of your network that you know) so that I can find out where we can still improve.

For the settings bug, a small oversight on my part led to this being broken for several weeks. When "null" is passed in from Javascript, the VARTYPE of that argument is VT_NULL, not VT_EMPTY. I missed this when we were trying to get all the plugin stuff finished and we didn't get a chance to get a new acccore.dll into Triton for quite a while.

Anyway, settings will now work for plugins that support settings (IAccCommandTarget::Exec with a command id of -1). The only JAMS plugin that currently supports settings is Colorizer, where you can change the saturation and value of your colors, as well as the time it takes to cycle through all the hues. Now that the settings button works, look for more plugins to have tweakable settings (one common ask is for timestamps in EZLogger) in a future version of JAMS.

I have one question. The Colorizer only seems to work when there is no specific default color chosen. But after you select a default color, and change it to black, the colorizer won't turn on unless I copied and pasted some text that didn't have any color associated to it. How do we reset the color of the fonts? I've already tried through About:Config way

i'm having the same problem but i didn't even change the font just the highlight color.

I would just like to say that I enjoy this blog and thank you for writing it.

I always like a certain level of transparency in the development process - I don't care if there aren't nightly builds and all that stuff that some other companies do - it's just nice to know a little bit of what goes on between releases and the kind of work that goes into these programs. I think that if more software writers did this, their user base might appreciate the software a bit more

I thoguht this build fixed the problem with not showing the correct background color for text from older versions of AIM.  I seem to still have that problem.

Any chance there will be a Mac Triton beta anytime soon?  It would be a killer app for cross-platform videochat...  Thanks!

the only problem i see is that i cant use all the JAMS 2.51 plugins...i want to use the MyTunes 2.2 but i cant active the settings button...infact none of the settings buttons can be clicked to pull up the settings for any of them...the only "ACTIONS" i can do are "Show IM Logs" , "Show AIM Fight Scores" , "Broadcast IM" , "Buddy List Load" , "Buddy List Save" , and "Tweak A/V Properties"

I'd really appreciate it if BuddyListOPS was as full featured as importing and exporting in 5.9.  I'd like to be able to select which groups to export, and I'd like to be able to export Alias's and BuddyNotes.  (of course that means that Triton would have to support them as well wouldn't it.  heh)  Or if there's no way to make Triton/JAMS backward compatable with AIM 5.9 then at least allow Triton to export the Name you enter while editing the buddy.
